Debra R.

Private tutor in Asheville, NC

Education

I completed my Bachelor's degree in History and Political Science at the University of Montana in 1990, and earned a Juris Doctor degree from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. I completed Orton-Gillingham Basic Training in 2010 and Advanced Training in 2011. Enrolled in Multisensory Math training at Key Learning Center, Asheville.

Experience

I have been tutoring students since 2010. After working as an attorney for several years, my family moved to Asheville, NC and I began volunteering in public school classrooms working with struggling readers. This led me to get trained in Orton-Gillingham, a multi-sensory approach to reading instruction that was designed for students with specific learning disabilities such as Dyslexia, but which can be effective in teaching all students. I enjoy working with students and seeing a struggling student build their skills and confidence.

Hobbies

When my children were at home my time was spent taking them to tennis matches and tournaments. Now that they are both in college (YIKES!), my evenings and weekends are spent close to home, with my husband, our cat, and a good book or needle craft project such as sewing, embroidery, or needle felting.
